Quoted: An army of red monsters is marching west from Russia. They have eight legs, and huge claws, and they grow up to 6ft wide. They’ll eat anything they can catch. There are 10 million of them, and they’re multiplying rapidly.

Some interesting short talks by some of the most popular authors and speakers of the last few years.
Quoted: TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is an invitation-only event where the world's leading thinkers and doers gather to find inspiration. Initially an annual conference, the scope of TED has expanded to include a bi-annual global conference, a humanitarian prize, and free audio/video podcasts of extraordinary talks.

Jim Gray is missing! I remember a talk he gave on storage technology in 2000-2001... one of the more memorable ones I attended.

This has been one of the more interesting currency trades for me over the last couple of years... although to most people it's probably like watching paint peel. I still read almost every story on the topic... almost missed this one!
Quoted: In the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, visitors from neighboring Hong Kong are not nearly as popular as they used to be.

Not sure what side I come down on.
One thing that surprised me was how *little* money is reportedly going into these startups... $455 million of venture capital in the first 9 months of 2006? There are *tons* of Web 2.0 companies, so either they're not getting funded by VC's, or not getting/taking much from them. I realize that it's cheap to start a lot of these companies, but it takes money to grow them... hrm.

The end of my "Four Fun Things" series!
1 FaverViewed: 3 TimesQuoted: Let's make our way downtown – a part of the city we Seattleites sometimes forget to appreciate. But every once in a while, it’s nice to feel the bustle of a crowd … and of course, you can’t let your visitors leave Seattle without hitting up these four spots:
