Quoted: Street art comes indoors, to the Smithsonian, no less. Will anyone call the police?
On Tuesday, as Barack Obama was being sworn into office, his portrait by the street artist Shepard Fairey — reproduced endlessly during the campaign until it became the defining image of the future president (it towered over a stage at one of the inaugural balls) — was on view at the National Portrait Gallery. A collaged poster of it had just entered the collection along with portraits by artists like Gilbert Stuart (George Washington), Norman Rockwell (Richard Nixon) and Elaine de Kooning (John Kennedy).

Great Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. I was lucky enough to attend the opening night. A very nice assortment of information about da Vinci, models of his inventions, replica artifacts (cannon balls, codex pages), full-size replicas of all his oil paintings, including the Last Supper (which fills a wall), plus a real coup -- one of the actual pages from the Codex Leicester, which explains Leonardo's (correct) theory about why the moon has halo around it for your reading pleasure, if you can read mirror-image Italian, that is.
