    Amazon's frustration-free packaging - (37signals)

"mazon launched “Frustration-Free Packaging,” a new initiative designed to make it easier for customers to liberate products from their packages. The initial focus is on hard plastic cases (“clamshells”) and those secured with a large number of plastic-coated wire ties, commonly used in toy packaging. "

About time. Although this solution only works for online shops, where product visibility isn't important. But surely it can't be that hard to improve standard retail packaging...

Extensis Sent Me a Macworld Safe | CenterNetworks

"One of the companies that has sent us software for years is Extensis... Every time, it's either software in a box, or just the cd/dvd plus media materials. This time is different. The box was a weird cube-shape which had me confused as to what it could be. I rip it open and inside I find a safe. It's a piggy-bank safe with a combination. There's a card which says "During Macworld 2008, you'll receive a follow-up noteand a combination that will unlock key details about our new Type Server as well as your vault, revealing its contents."

How cool is that! There's some great marketing right there.

"Users of Telstra's high-speed Next G phone network will soon be able to download concert tickets and other content directly to their phones by scanning special barcodes on billboards and other advertisements... All they need do is photograph a barcode, which can be on any surface - from billboards and computer screens to bottles and T-shirts."

About time, but Telstra only? Yeh sure, because the cool kids are all on Telstra right?

""Each year, many college students spend more time planning their next spring break than their postcollege career, even though they'll spend a lot more time on the job than on vacation." Blame what Schneider and Belsky call choice challenges, or mental traps that practically everyone falls into at times, especially when making major career decisions."

Have to say I've fallen in to some of these choice challenges. Great article, even if you're not career-planning, because it explains a lot of the ways we make many of our choices.

Designer Water - Evian Palace Bottle (GALLERY)

"Bringing a whole new level of sophistication and class to designer water, Evian is marketing a limited release “Palace” bottle to high end bars and restaurants. Featuring a unique stainless steel coaster, accompanied with a specially designed pouring top, Evian has thought of all the details."

Pretty cool marketing strategy. I have to say though, after drinking tap water for a while, I can't stand bottled water anymore because it has no taste at all.

Maths software does not add up | Herald Sun

"She said most of the maths software issues related to products supplied by the Australian Institute of Mathematics...Mother of three Kim Hyde said she was told by a saleswoman that computer software would help her autistic son, and so she signed on to buy the software for around $5500. The purchase was financed by a loan from an associated company at 24 per cent interest."

WTF! How retarded could you be. $5500 bucks for a bit of software and access to an Indian call center and everything's magically gonna improve? The guy behind this must be laughing all the way to the bank.
