The power management stuff is mildly interesting.

"The overall look of the distribution is also likely to be refreshed. "Brown has served us well but the Koala is considering other options," Shuttleworth noted."

This is the best news in the article - the brown has to go, for the same reason the Zune's brown just didn't work - brown = uncool, and well shit really.

Comment at Faves | View original page

<dc:subject>linux,ubuntu,cloud</dc:subject>

» Ubuntu 7.10 “Gutsy Gibbon” features | Hardware 2.0 | ZDNet.com

"Just as I’m getting used to Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, details of the next version, 7.10 (codenamed “Gutsy Gibbon”), have been released...Final release is scheduled for October 18th 2007."

And again, there's nothing really revolutionary (Beryl/compiz aside). When will the Linux stop playing catchup and do something different, something not done before, as Apple does. Then I guess this is a minor point release.

Comment at Faves | View original page

<dc:subject>linux,ubuntu</dc:subject>

Wubi - The Easiest Way to Linux

"Wubi is an unofficial Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a few clicks."

This is a pretty interesting idea - it installs a disk image file on to your windows partition, and edits your windows boot manager. Then when you reboot, you'll see a new entry in your Windows boot manager for Ubuntu, click it and it'll load it from that disk image file and store stuff in there too. Other than that image file, nothing else is touched (unless you want it to be). Great for those who want something that stores data over reboots, but have no idea about partitions. Thumbs up!

Comment at Faves | View original page

<dc:subject>linux,ubuntu</dc:subject>
