"I was fascinated to discover the auction hybrid site swoopo.com (previously known as telebid.com). It's a strange combination of eBay, woot, and slot machine... Even when you win, you can lose. Remember that each bid costs you 75 cents, while only increasing the price of the item 15 cents. "

This is an interesting concept, and the figures, well, these guys must be rolling in it. Exploiting human nature the best way possible - without them knowing it.

Interesting list of where company names come from (with a link to the even longer wikipedia list). Not sure whether some of them are true, but believable nevertheless.

"Häagen-Dazs: contrary to common belief the name is not European: it is simply two made-up words meant to look European to American eyes."

I always laugh when I see this - great marketing; I was fooled originally.

This is a pretty cool site. It shows you how to pronounce names. I'm trying to figure out how my name is actually supposed to be pronounced. I have a feeling I've been saying it wrong all my life...my aunt just told me it should sound like 'kroose' -- as in rhyming with 'goose', not 'krooz', which sounds like 'cruise' and always results in people writing my name as "Cruz" when they hear it and see me, since apparently I look Hispanic. This site doesn't have my name, so I had to write to the founder! Stay tuned ...
