Windows Mobile Team Blog : Sync your Facebook contacts with Outlook (and Windows Mobile)

"Are you on Facebook? Do you use Outlook and Windows Mobile? If you answered yes and yes, get OutSync, a free app to sync your Facebook friends' photos with Outlook! It's written by Mel Sampat on the Windows Mobile team, and is free to use."

Pretty cool app if you have a WM phone and a facebook account. I wish you could tell it how to match the unmatched contacts without having to change your entries, but otherwise a great app.

    facebook dub: Overview

"dub is a phone that builds on the architecture of facebook. By building on a existing ecosystem of connections. dub becomes a logical to keep in touch and connect with both your local and extended networks... Similar to how well the ipod integrated with itunes, simply music. dub just works with facebook, simply connecting people."

This is pretty cool, apart from the facebook lock-in. If he opened it up somehow, it would be an awesome idea. Two thumbs up!

"Today I was in a meeting where someone mentioned that most of the people he knows have profiles on both MySpace and Facebook because their real friends are on MySpace while their work friends are on Facebook... It sucks for teens trying to balance mom and friends. It sucks for college students trying to have a social life and not piss off their profs. It sucks for 20-somethings trying to date and balance their boss's presence. "

Hmm... not something I'm dealing with right now, but an interesting point. I guess the alternate argument is that your employers expect this anyway, so does seeing it matter?

Dabble Do Launches - Social To-Do List for Facebook

"Web office vendor Dabble DB has jumped on the Facebook bandwagon and launched a "social to-do list" called Dabble Do. You can get it on Facebook here. How is it social, I hear you ask? Basically you can assign items not only to yourself, but to your friends - and be kept up-to-date on their status... If you have assigned the item to a friend, you can "crack the whip" to remind them of it.""

Now this is an interesting app. I like the ability to post a todo item to someone else, and to 'crack the whip'.

"How many Facebook applications is too many? With people adding unnecessary apps to their profiles at a blistering pace, we wondered just how far you could push the limits; from the Abe Vigoda dead or alive indicator to Ploppy, the app for sharing the current state of your poop, we added hundreds of ‘em. This screen capture shows what happens when you add over 200 Facebook apps: a huge mess. It takes about 40 seconds to load, which is arguably faster than many MySpace profiles."

Hahaha... someone has too much time. But agreed - there are profiles with way too much crap on it.

"You may have seen the news that Facebook has acquired my fledgling startup, Parakey. The project remains very much alive, and since we will be working to port the concepts and technology to Facebook, it will remain stealthy."

Wow, congrats to Blake but this definitely shows that Facebook has more than the web in its sights. Sounds like a bold plan to leapfrog it's competitors.

"But selling the Company would be a huge mistake. First and foremost for the users. Any buyer will screw up Facebook. It's greatness comes from the fact that the people who run the company live inside the service, they built if for themselves and it works because of that. They have their pulse on the community and they are not likely to screw it up too badly. If you look at most web services that have been bought, they've lost their mojo once they were acquired. What has YouTube done lately that is so great? Skype? MySpace? Delcious? Flickr? "

"In this post, I provide an overview and analysis of the Facebook Plaform and what we have learned about it in the three weeks since it launched.

To start, my personal opinion is that the new Facebook Platform is a dramatic leap forward for the Internet industry."

Long and detailed, but great post about Facebook as a platform, although I think he should've touched a bit more on the user interaction aspects and effects.

    Zuckerburg, Replica of Gates

"Mark Zuckerburg (Facebook) and Bill Gates (Microsoft) have much in common.
    Both dropped out of Harvard.
Both went on to create successful companies.
Both have technical and business smarts.
    Is this a fair comparison?"

Ok, probably a far shot from the evidence given, but I don't think Mark is to be underestimated.

    Embracing Facebook

"The more I use Facebook, the more I’m convinced that in 12-18 months Facebook will slay MySpace...Anyhow, I’ve now switched to bookmarking via Facebook. I love Bluedot but having accounts all over the place seems a bit daft, and the whole Facebook as a Platform thing is going to make this even more so. "

Wow, only now am I gradually getting what Facebook's trying to do - make it the one and only destination for your web life, tackling other start pages as well. Man, massive respect for Mark for his work.
