A great slide show of motherhood around the world.

Quoted: Magnum celebrates motherhood, in gratitude to mothers around the world. Happy Mother’s Day!

I really want to see this, despite the not so hot reviews - I used to love watching the show on Cartoon Network! It just looks so stylized and cool, and Christina Ricci and Emile Hirsch would make a badass couple...

Quoted: The Matrix masterminds Andy and Larry Wachowski usher anime icon Tatsuo Yoshida's classic 1960s-era hit into the new millennium with this family-friendly story of a young racecar driver who takes on the mysterious Racer X.

    Hilarious!

Quoted: Already got a dozen Obama headbands? Worn out your " Hot for Hillary" T-shirt? It's time for a new campaign accessory: Slate's political ring tones. Get one of these clips, and you'll hear John McCain say, "My friends," every time you get a call.

A great Slate piece on why you don't find technology (computers, cell phones, etc.) in children's books.

Quoted: Technology, as we well know, has become a ubiquitous part of American children's lives. And yet there is one place—a whole world, actually—where children are safely walled off from wired and wireless devices. That is the world of picture books.

My article on "A Dream in Doubt," a documentary on post-9/11 anti-Sikh violence in the U.S., and on an anti-Sikh hate crime that took place on I-5 in Seattle. Sad.

Quoted: In the years following September 11, 2001, America has struggled to make sense of a tragedy, turning a scrutinizing eye at the country’s role in world affairs and its immigration policies. In one form, this scrutiny has morphed into an attempt to seek out and retaliate against a tangible “enemy.”

While this raises some good points about stupid questions people ask vegetarians (and even stupider assumptions that are made), I'm annoyed that it doesn't even consider religious/cultural vegetarians.

Quoted: Every vegetarian remembers his first time. Not the unremarkable event of his first meal without meat. No, I mean the first time he casually lets slip that he's turned herbivore, prompting everyone in earshot to stare at him as if he just revealed plans to sail his carrot-powered plasma yacht to Neptune.

A powerful slide show marking Israel's 60th anniversary as a state.

Quoted: This week marks the 60th anniversary of Israel’s declaration of statehood, preceded by years of immigration into Palestine leading to the U.N.-backed partition of the region into Palestinian and Jewish sectors.

Please, all these women look fabulous - this is not a real problem. Plus, a.) the idea of women in their 40s having sexuality is not so absurd, and b.) this show is clearly a fantasy world (an awesome one, haha). Can't wait for the movie!

Quoted: How does 'Sex and the City' film avoid the age problem? By embracing it.

Apparently Truman was unpopular because of the Korean War, a weak economy, and "tax fixing." You'd think it would've been the atomic bomb...

Quoted: A CNN poll released May 1 pegged President Bush's approval rating at 28 percent, among the lowest in modern American history. The rating hasn't yet reached the all-time low of 22 percent, which Harry Truman received in February 1952.
