Neat! I bet that tree uses a lot of energy...
Quoted: The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is going "greener" — with energy-saving lights replacing old-fashioned bulbs on the towering evergreen this year. Weather permitting, the tree will also get some of its electricity from 363 solar panels just installed atop Rockefeller Center.

Weird! Guess we'll be seeing Bret Favre around the 'hood in NJ...
Quoted: FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) _ Along with their new quarterback, the New York Jets now have a new training facility. The team officially opened a new practice center in Florham Park on Tuesday, finalizing a move from Long Island, where they'd held practice for 40 seasons.

Just great.
Quoted: New York state " may have to sell off roads, bridges and tunnels" to address a growing budget deficit, the New York Post reported Wednesday. How would you go about selling someone a bridge in Brooklyn?

Oh I hope they reopen it! One of my favorite memories is climbing up the Statue of Liberty as a kid - esp. during the centennial year... so cool.
Quoted: The National Park Service is considering reopening the Statue of Liberty’s crown, which has been closed since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

This is a great story, but the return of burlesque is really a national trend - not just NY. I'm actually writing an article on burlesque's comeback in Seattle! Tons of shows around the city - Seattle's scene gives NY's a real run for its money.
Quoted: Although burlesque was kicked out of New York in 1942, the gleefully bad-mannered entertainment has returned to the city.

I love this story. It reminds of those two books out on the market right now: The Dangerous Book for Boys and The Daring Book for Girls. I absolutely agree that the media has fuelled paranoia about the effect of crime on safe child-rearing. Really, the benefits of letting your kids be bold far outweigh the risks (well, assuming you don't get accused of child abuse...)
Quoted: A New York columnist lets her grade-schooler ride the subway alone, provoking a wave of criticism. But do kids really need more supervision than in generations past?

Eliot Spitzer should've paid attention when they were teaching Greek mythology in school - he might want to look up the terms tragic flaw, Achilles heel, and irony.
Quoted: Spitzer, who rose to prominence as a scourge of Wall Street, uprooting corrupt practices, coming down hard on bad actors, and establishing a new moral order, was laid low by reports that he had been involved in a prostitution ring.
