I wish South Asia could break this dynastic habit... I just don't see why Bhutto's 19-year-old son is most qualified to succeed her. Meanwhile, I didn't realize Bhutto had kids - I really hope he isn't assassinated as well...
Quoted: Pakistan’s largest political party picked Benazir Bhutto’s 19-year-old son to succeed her as chairman and vowed to forge ahead with elections next week.

Sad...
Quoted: He was a star in the Republican Party. Now, like dozens of his G.O.P. colleagues, he’s quitting Congress, fed up with his party, his president and the process.

This article really hits the nail on the head! (Also, that's a great illustration). Apparently the writer authored a novel called "The Abstinence Teacher" - seems worth checking out.
Quoted: Caribou hunting aside, Sarah Palin represents the state-of-the-art version of a particular type of woman—let's call her the Sexy Puritan—that's become a familiar and potent figure in the culture war in recent years.

Apparently he was skewered by conservatives for his gambling in the 2000 election...
Quoted: John McCain, Congress’s most influential member on gambling issues, has a history with the industry complicated by personal ties and opposing loyalties.

McCain only has himself to blame for his relationship with the media. Trying to bar them from covering Palin (esp. during her visit to the U.N.) was a lame, anti-democratic move. The McCain campaign's response to the whole affair? "It was a mix-up." And nevermind the NYT was RIGHT about McCain's campaign's affiliation with Freddie Mac...
Quoted: Yesterday, the McCain campaign pilloried the NY Times in a conference call with the press.

Love the new Obama ad!
Quoted: Making overt references to McCain's age, the spot, titled "Still," calls the Republican nominee out-of-touch, showing footage of him from 1982 alongside screen shots of disco balls, a (Zach Morris-like) old school cell phone, a record player and a rubix cube.

The NY Times review of Sarah Palin's first interview. I definitely agree that she seemed highly scripted and nervous. I guess the fact that Charles Gibson probed beyond her wholesome one-liners would make him "liberal media" too.
Quoted: Sarah Palin said she agreed to John McCain’s offer without hesitation, her most confident answer in an interview that was at times tense and probing.

In all fairness to young voters, the odds are stacked in favor of "geezer voters." While I still think young people should be more conscientious about voting (esp. ones in school who have time off), who's most likely to be able to miss work on a Tuesday to go vote? Retired people! Election Day should be a holiday, or an a weekend. The system disenfranchises people who can't afford to miss work.
Quoted: In 2004, the "youth vote" was supposed to break all records. It did and it didn't—but either way, it didn't make a difference for John Kerry, even though he won 54 percent of voters under 29.

Before Sarah Palin knew she was going to get the VP nod, she accused Hillary of whining about unfair sexist treatment from the media during her campaign. She says women politicians should suck it up and accept the scrutiny. Do I smell a hypocrite?
Quoted: At a NEWSWEEK forum on Women in Leadership last March, Alaska governor Sarah Palin was asked if she thought Hillary Clinton was being treated unfairly in the press.
