MSN City Guides - Taste of the Town

My friend Sean's story on out-of-the-ordinary NY street vendors, edited by yours truly. I love the shout-out to the famous dosa guy near NYU:)

Quoted: Space might be at a premium in New York, but these vendors have taken it to the streets with small food carts that are big on creativity and flavor.

ChikaLicious Dessert Bar - New York

I was just daydreaming about this place. It's a really inventive, delicious dessert place in NY. I think this could take off in Seattle too... Definitely going again this summer, yum! Be warned - they only allow parties of 4 or smaller.

Quoted: The 3-course Prix Fixe menu, described as American desserts, French Presentation and Japanese tasting portions (guests wishing a “brimming at the seams” experience, are encouraged to order additional or “add-on” desserts), is $12; and includes an amuse, dessert of your choice, and assorted petit fours.

Treats Truck - New York City

Okay, this is officially the most amazing street cart EVER. Must find it next time I'm in NY and gorge myself on baked goods!

Quoted: March 20th is the first day of Spring. Hurray! We look forward to Spring and all it has in store. We love taking our truck out when the weather is good, with lots of yummy seasonal and holiday treats, as well as our Standards.

If I can't make it out to Red Hook for cupcakes, there's always this place in my old 'hood! Awesome cupcakes, and no line out the door like at Magnolia :)

Quoted: We are truly driven by the love of what we create everyday and it comes not just in the form of a cupcake but in the knowledge that we truly make people happy every time they walk through the doors of sugar Sweet sunshine.

    Baked - Brooklyn, N.Y.

I really want to check out this cupcake/brownie place when I'm in NY next month, but don't think I'll make it out to Red Hook...

Quoted: We bake delicious cakes, pie, cookies, brownies, scones, muffins, and tarts on premises daily. Stop by, say hello, and enjoy a slice of cake with a great cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

Robin des Bois - Brooklyn, NY, 11201-6410 - Citysearch

Yummy , cheap brunch & a cool outdoor patio.

Quoted: A massive chandelier, fireplace and decade-spanning antiques make for a cozy interior while the plant-strewn, festively decorated backyard more than earns its "Sherwood Forest" nickname. All are drawn by the basic bistro fare--including mussels, steak with potatoes gratin and croque monsieur.

Maru New York, Manhattan/Murray Hill | Yelp

Cool karaoke bar at a kind of random/unexpected location in NY. It's pretty expensive for private room karaoke, but might be worth it with a big group. Looking forward to checking this out one day!

Quoted: Maru Reviews - "Spaceship Discovery One: that's all I could think of when I walked into the bar at Maru, after a scary ride in the dingy elevator that takes you there. Little did I expect to find a beautiful place like this one.

Via Della Pace - Eat. Drink. Save Money.

Cute Italian place in the E. Village. This is definitely a place you go for the ambience (cozy, dark, lots of candles, big windows opening onto the street) and for the wine. The food's good, but it's not the best Italian in the Village.

Quoted: Welcome to Via Della Pace! We specialize in delicious and reasonably priced cuisine, including our house specialties and other customer favorites.

Yaffa Cafe - East Village - New York Magazine Restaurant Guide

One of my favorite backyard patios restaurants in NY. The hummus is killer.

Quoted: You probably haven't wandered in here since sophomore year at NYU, but don't worry: nothing's changed. See the review of this Mediterranean restaurant at 97 St. Marks Pl. in Manhattan.
