Damn... guess Philly is becoming sort of like N.Y.'s 6th borough.
Quoted: At least 1,000 New Yorkers annually have settled in Philadelphia since 2002. The sobering number comes from the Philadelphia controller’s office, which gleaned it from IRS and census information. Since 2001, 8,334 New Yorkers have moved to Philadelphia.

Happy 125th Birthday, Brooklyn Bridge! She's a beauty :)
Quoted: One of the most iconic and inspiring symbols of New York City and one of the greatest engineering feats of its generation, the Brooklyn Bridge was opened to traffic with much celebration and fanfare on May 24, 1883, linking Brooklyn and Manhattan.

This is a great story, but the return of burlesque is really a national trend - not just NY. I'm actually writing an article on burlesque's comeback in Seattle! Tons of shows around the city - Seattle's scene gives NY's a real run for its money.
Quoted: Although burlesque was kicked out of New York in 1942, the gleefully bad-mannered entertainment has returned to the city.

I love this story. It reminds of those two books out on the market right now: The Dangerous Book for Boys and The Daring Book for Girls. I absolutely agree that the media has fuelled paranoia about the effect of crime on safe child-rearing. Really, the benefits of letting your kids be bold far outweigh the risks (well, assuming you don't get accused of child abuse...)
Quoted: A New York columnist lets her grade-schooler ride the subway alone, provoking a wave of criticism. But do kids really need more supervision than in generations past?

Eliot Spitzer should've paid attention when they were teaching Greek mythology in school - he might want to look up the terms tragic flaw, Achilles heel, and irony.
Quoted: Spitzer, who rose to prominence as a scourge of Wall Street, uprooting corrupt practices, coming down hard on bad actors, and establishing a new moral order, was laid low by reports that he had been involved in a prostitution ring.

Holy crap, this is SO disappointing... I really had high hopes for Sptizer. So much for him being a crusading watch dog :(
Quoted: Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologized to his family and the public on Monday, but did not not elaborate on a bombshell report that he has been involved in a prostitution ring.
