The Mecca of Mouse: Five days of Disney - Slate Magazine

Ha, one of Slate's writers (a childless adult, mind you) conducts an 'experiment' where he fully immerses himself in Disney for 5 days straight. a.) What a great way to get a free vacation, and b.) What a hilarious concept for an article.

Quoted: Why on earth would I, a childless adult, visit Disney World by myself? Basically, to figure out what the hell's going on in this place. Because America has clearly decided it's hallowed ground.

I never really "got" Disney World. It's like going on a fake vacation rather than going somewhere real. My parents took us to Disney World while they were in the process of getting divorced (yes, I come from geniuses)and even though I was only 12, I was like, really? This is it?

Yeah, I totally agree. We only went there once, just to see what it was all about, and appreciated it for what it is. I also definitely agree with this writer's of assessment of Epcot center, in particular. It had a really different meaning in a time when travel wasn't so easy for the general population...
