I love this story. It reminds of those two books out on the market right now: The Dangerous Book for Boys and The Daring Book for Girls. I absolutely agree that the media has fuelled paranoia about the effect of crime on safe child-rearing. Really, the benefits of letting your kids be bold far outweigh the risks (well, assuming you don't get accused of child abuse...)
Quoted: A New York columnist lets her grade-schooler ride the subway alone, provoking a wave of criticism. But do kids really need more supervision than in generations past?

Okay, re-faving my new blog post. There were technical difficulties with the site last night...
Quoted: Apologies for the long lag between posts, but I have something important to report: I think I'm falling for Seattle. The only problem is, I'm already in love with another city (you know, the one that never sleeps and makes pizza to die for).

My friend Sean's story on out-of-the-ordinary NY street vendors, edited by yours truly. I love the shout-out to the famous dosa guy near NYU:)
Quoted: Space might be at a premium in New York, but these vendors have taken it to the streets with small food carts that are big on creativity and flavor.

I was just daydreaming about this place. It's a really inventive, delicious dessert place in NY. I think this could take off in Seattle too... Definitely going again this summer, yum! Be warned - they only allow parties of 4 or smaller.
Quoted: The 3-course Prix Fixe menu, described as American desserts, French Presentation and Japanese tasting portions (guests wishing a “brimming at the seams” experience, are encouraged to order additional or “add-on” desserts), is $12; and includes an amuse, dessert of your choice, and assorted petit fours.

Haha some of the observations about The New Yorker and its readers (myself included) are so funny, yet sadly true :)
Quoted: Today I can finally update my résumé to include "Writer, The New Yorker." Yes, I won The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest, and I'm going to tell you how I did it. These observations have been culled from months of research and are guaranteed to help you win, too.

Happy 125th Birthday, Brooklyn Bridge! She's a beauty :)
Quoted: One of the most iconic and inspiring symbols of New York City and one of the greatest engineering feats of its generation, the Brooklyn Bridge was opened to traffic with much celebration and fanfare on May 24, 1883, linking Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Check it out, my first blog post for the Seattle editition of the San Francisco Examiner. I'm the New-to-Seattle Examiner!
Quoted: It's easy to feel homesick as a New York-Seattle transplant when you’re looking to chase away those rainy day blues with a delectable deli sandwich. After all, delis are to New York what cafes are to Seattle.
