My friend Nick's story on the food capitals of America is on MSN! Did you know that Hammonton, NJ is the blueberry capital of the world? Reagan said so...
Quoted: You probably know New York is the world’s financial capital, but can you name the world’s blueberry capital? Find out what tasty treats put these American communities on the map.

My latest blog post. Mom, I think you'll enjoy the last paragraph :)
Quoted: Seattle Newcomer Examiner - Seattle's got some fantastic restaurants, like Wild Ginger and Palace Kitchen. But there's still something missing - the South Asian equivalent (that is, a restaurant/lounge with authentic but inventive Indian food and great ambiance).

Holy crap, Meryl Streep makes an amazing Julia Child! I can't wait to see this movie... I loved Julia Child's memoir - so inspirational. She didn't even start cooking seriously until her late 30s and she failed plenty of times. Fabulous life.
Quoted: The film also covers the years Julia Child and her husband Paul (Stanley Tucci) spent in Paris during the 1940s and ’50s, when Paul was a foreign diplomat who was eventually investigated by Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

I will never understand competitive eating, but I continue to be fascinated (and slightly grossed out) by it...
Quoted: On July 4, six-time Nathan's-hot-dog-eating champ Takeru Kobayashi will try to reclaim his title from Joey Chestnut. Last year, Chestnut set a world record at the Coney Island contest by downing 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes.

I want to learn better knife skills!
Quoted: Just as no figure skater ever won a gold medal solely for executing perfect figure eights, no one will become a great chef simply on the elegance of his brunoise. Beyond the purely practical value in good knife skills, there is a certain pride of blade—more often than not, a masculine pride—that goes with elegant handling.

Finally checking this place out! I have reservations for the deck and, of course, plans to see the burlesque show afterwards :)

Ick, not a good picture...
Quoted: Nobody thinks prison food is haute cuisine, but could it be so bad it's unconstitutional? The question comes up more often than you might think, and there's one dish in particular that so offends the palates of America's prisoners that it's repeatedly been the subject of lawsuits: Nutraloaf.

Fascinating, I had no idea! I've eaten "ants climbing a tree" - quite delicious.
Quoted: In preparation for this summer's Olympic Games, the Chinese government has recommended new English translations for more than 2,000 Chinese dishes to appeal to Western tourists. The menu items in question include "bean curd made by a pockmarked woman," "ants climbing a tree," and "chicken without sexual life."

Advice on what wines to serve with spicy food.
Quoted: You don't have to forgo wine while eating a hot ethnic dish. It used to be that people would drink anything but wine while eating a hot curry or a spicy chicken slathered in Jamaican jerk sauce. But now even connoisseurs of good taste like "Food and Wine" magazine are featuring stories on what wine to serve with which spicy dish.

My International Examiner review of Raj Patel's book about the global food crisis!
Quoted: The global food crisis certainly isn’t starved for media attention. Turn to any news organization and rising food prices are making headlines alongside the rising cost of gas. With all the recent coverage, it seems like a problem that came out of left field.
