A Seattle film worth checking out & supporting at SIFF. Not only is it set in Washington state, but it's directed/written/acted by local artists (including Sean Nelson from Harvey Danger).
Quoted: Lynn Shelton’s funny and moving ode to the complexities of broken friendships finds former buddies Eric and Dylan spending an uncomfortable weekend together in a cabin in eastern Washington.

Checking this documentary out at SIFF tomorrow. I hear it's one of India's stronger entries, curious to see it...
Quoted: “What sin did I commit to be born a woman?” These chilling words of 21-year-old housemaid Lakshmi reverberate throughout Mumbai-based filmmaker Nishtha Jain’s extraordinary documentary. Jain turns the camera on her part-time maid, and in the process illuminates the complex relationship between employer and servant, filmmaker, and subject.

Wow, this movie sounds intense. Also, Charlize Theron is in it and she's going to be at the opening night gala for the Seattle International Film Festival! Can't believe it's coming up again so soon, better get my membership card...
Quoted: "Battle in Seattle" is the story of a handful of characters who find themselves thrust into the chaos of the infamous anti-globalization protests against the WTO that shook Seattle in the fall of 1999.

Checking this documentary out tomorrow. It seems like such a universal, bittersweet story about "progress"... hopefully it'll live up to this great SIFF review!
Quoted: Ostensibly a look at four old-world Austrian businesses that won’t survive gentrification, this rewarding documentary is really about the quiet moments and the banter that takes place among the aging proprietors. Beautifully shot and absolutely charming, it recalls of a time when community was more important than consumerism.

Looking forward to checking this out at SIFF - I love Parker Posey!
Quoted: Parker Posey and Melvil Poupaud form a cross-Atlantic indie film dream team in Zoe Cassavetes’ sparkling romantic comedy for latent depressives and the chronically lovelorn. It’s Sex and the City with a dose of Xanax and a hit of ’30s screwball charm, costarring Cassavetes’ magnificent mom, Gena Rowlands.

Mo and I are checking this out on Thursday!
Quoted: After his entire Seattle call-center department is outsourced, Todd succeeds in hanging onto his job only by agreeing to go to India to train his own replacement. With such bemusing cross-cultural comedy at hand, can love be far behind? Culture-shocks and stereotypes are wittily sidestepped in this charming crowd-pleaser.

Looking forward to checking this out. I love Julie Delpy, and it turns out she wrote and directed this film, in addition to composing the music. Sounds like a sweet little comedy.
Quoted: Clashes of culture, volatile in-laws and flirtatious ex-boyfriends test the relationship of Marion and her American boyfriend Jack on a visit to Paris in this charming screwball comedy. Actress Julie Delpy not only directs and stars but also writes, produces, edits and composes the music for this snappy crowd-pleasing gem.

Just saw this documentary - the best SIFF film I've seen so far! It's amazing to see the kinds of effects Sesame Street can have on international development. It's also great the see how culturally sensitive & aware the Sesame Street board and staff are (NGOs should follow their lead)! It was also just plain cute.
Quoted: The innovative children’s show SESAME STREET has long reached beyond the boundaries of our nation. This new documentary shows the challenges in bringing it to such troubled areas as Bangladesh, Kosovo and South Africa, and how they adapt the show to the current issues and indigenous cultures of the regions.

This film sounds great!
Quoted: In the early years of Communist-run China, an irrepressible kindergartener starts a revolution of his own against his tyrannical teacher. A delight from the get-go, Zhang Yuan’s film is a hilarious, all-ages ode to individualism.

You must be shiwani's friend before you can comment on this Fave.Pretty cool film. I liked that it explored friendships between male characters in their 30s, and I liked that the actors improvised their lines. Neat concept.
