An Inconvenient Truth - Al Gore - Movies - New York Times

Just saw the preview for this documentary featuring Al Gore's campagin to spread awareness about global warming. Looks so scary it might make it hard to sleep at night!

While the scare tactics might be a tad over the top, I still think this will be an important film...

Quoted: Opinions on the prospects of a new documentary about former Vice President Al Gore's quest to spur action against global warming range from hopeful to scornful.

Independent Lens . A DREAM IN DOUBT | PBS

I'm attending a screening of this film about post-9/11 anti-Skih violence on April 19th at the Northwest Film Forum for an article I'm working on. Click on the link about screening events to RSVP for the Seattle one... it's free and the filmmaker and one of the film's subjects will be attending.

Quoted: One of America’s first post 9/11 hate crime murders punctuated a growing wave of violence against Sikhs in retaliation for the terror attacks. Told from the perspective of the victim’s brother, A DREAM IN DOUBT travels to Mesa, Arizona to reveal a story of national tragedy, murder, community and the American dream.

Shut Up And Sing: Dixie Chicks

I heard this documentary was great, and really makes the case that free speech comes at a high price these days... definitely going to rent it when I get a chance.

Quoted: ”Shut Up And Sing” travels with the Dixie Chicks, from the peak of their popularity as the national-anthem-singing darlings of country music and top-selling female recording artists of all time, through the now infamous anti-Bush comment made by the groups lead singer Natalie Maines in 2003.

A revealing documentary which looks beyond the IT boom at the mass suicides of farmers adversely affected by India's new economy (it also illustrates why microfinance isn't a cure-all for poverty in the Third World).

Quoted: "I Want My Father Back" is a documentary that examines the crisis small farmers in India face as a result of globalization and government apathy.

Watching this documentary in the UW library as we speak... A great Australian-made documentary from 2003 that looks at the training programs young Indians go through in the name of customer service for the western world. Raises a lot of interesting questions about cultural sensitivity and stereotypes in both directions...

Quoted: It’s only a matter of time before tens of thousands of Indians will be saying “g’day mate” when they answer the phone.
