International Examiner - Documentary Explores Anti-Sikh Violence

My article on "A Dream in Doubt," a documentary on post-9/11 anti-Sikh violence in the U.S., and on an anti-Sikh hate crime that took place on I-5 in Seattle. Sad.

Quoted: In the years following September 11, 2001, America has struggled to make sense of a tragedy, turning a scrutinizing eye at the country’s role in world affairs and its immigration policies. In one form, this scrutiny has morphed into an attempt to seek out and retaliate against a tangible “enemy.”

Oliver Stone Votes for 'Bush' Project - MSN Movies News

Let the jokes begin. They should title this "The Comedy of Errors." Apparently the film is setting out to answer this question (which is also my favorite quote): "How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world?"

Quoted: Oliver Stone has set his sights on his next directing project, "Bush," a film focusing on the life and presidency of George W. Bush, and attached Josh Brolin to play the title role.

How Wes Anderson mishandles race. - Slate Magazine

Interesting, I've never really examined the way Wes Anderson handles race in his movies - which is precisely the point of this article. Now I'm especially curious to check out Darjeeling Limited to see if I agree with this writer...

Quoted: The Darjeeling Limited, Anderson's latest movie, showcases an obnoxious element of Anderson that is rarely discussed: the clumsy, discomfiting way he stages interactions between white protagonists—typically upper-class elites—and nonwhite foils—typically working class and poor.

Michael Moore, Dr. Gupta square off over 'Sicko' - CNN.com

I mean, if they both agree that the health-care system needs a serious overhaul, maybe they shouldn't be sparring like opponents on television. Still, though, I understand what Gupta was getting at - Moore's comparisons can be specious.

Quoted: Filmmaker Michael Moore, whose new documentary "Sicko" takes on America's health care system, faced off Tuesday with CNN chief medical correspondent and practicing neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Both agreed, however, on the basic premise of "Sicko": Problems abound in America's health-care system and need to be fixed.

The Once and Future Pee-wee - New York Times

Dude, I loved Pee-Wee. I recently re-watched Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, and I find it amazing that a network and a studio were willing to put something so, um, unusual out there for kids. Power to you Pee-Wee!

Quoted: Paul Reubens remains the hero of legions of post-adolescents and their parents, who recall him as a shrewd merchant of anticonformity.
