Sounds like the new test will require studying. I like the idea of the questions being conceptual, rather than nit-picky. But at the same time, the test will be much harder to pass, which makes me wonder who we're trying to keep out...
Quoted: The rationale behind the test tweak is that immigrants who understand the most appealing qualities of life in the US are more likely to fall in love with it. But some people are already nervous that the test will discriminate against applicants with weaker educational backgrounds.

I've always thought the United States has gotten a lot right in the past when it comes to immigration and tolerance of different ethnic/religious groups (Fareed Zakaria from Newsweek theorizes that's why you haven't seen homegrown attacks in the U.S. like you have in Europe). Quoted: Europe's low birthrates pose a serious threat to its economic security, making immigration crucial to its survival.

An interesting analysis of what it means to be a "model minority" and why that's actually a problematic view.
Quoted: Being Asian and American is often a complex balancing act. The "model minority" stereotype -- a phrase often used to describe the economic and academic success of the Asian-American community relative to other minorities -- is a debilitating factor, even it is sometimes viewed as praise.

Redotted from Megha
Apparently the student republican group is sticking an actor in the crowd with a label saying "illegal immigrant." I fail to see how this raises awareness about anything.
Quoted: They’re not exactly descending upon Washington Square Park with horse and hound, but members of the College Republican club of New York University have certainly managed to offend some rather more proletariat sensibilities with their “Find the Illegal Immigrant” challenge, scheduled for today.
