click to playGod I love late '70s/early '80s Bollywood. It's untouchable in its awesomeness.
Quoted: Aaap Jaisa Koi sung by Nazia Hassan in 1980's Qurbani.

Hmm, I don't know about this. I don't see a need for Hollywood to start making films in India - I think the Indian studios are doing just fine. It would be cool if Hollywood was bringing more Bollywood to the US!
Quoted: The studio behind the forthcoming “Saawariya,” Sony Pictures Entertainment, is the first in a wave of American studios to produce their own Bollywood musicals.

I'm surprised Sanjay Dutt is getting 6 years in jail. It seems harsh, considering there's no established link between him and the bombings. I wonder if he's being made an example? The sentencing is being appealed, so we'll see what happens.
Quoted: Sanjay Dutt did not expect to be found guilty of involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings. The judge said that although Dutt could not be linked to the bombings, he should be jailed for buying firearms from the bombers.

This movie's playing at Totem Lakes if anyone's interested! I saw the preview and it actually looked pretty sarcastic and witty, although reviews say in typical Bollywood fashion, it loses its steam by the end. Still, I do love Amitabh and Tabu...
Quoted: Amitabh Bachchan lends new meaning to vintage romance as he plays a top chef in London who tries to win over a woman (Tabu) who is half his age and convince her father, who is younger than him, about his suitable boy status.

Cool, this'll be good for the city's economy! I can't wait to go!
Quoted: Plans to build India's first film theme park - at a cost of around $100m - are released in the city of Mumbai. India's entertainment capital, Mumbai (Bombay) will finally get a film theme park of its own along the lines of Hollywood studio parks.

This film (based on the life of Reliance founder Dirubhai Ambani) did a good job of showing the problematic interplay between business, the press, and government in 1980s India. I also don't think it was a clear-cut ode to capitalism either. Had its annoying moments, but amazing performance by Abhishek Bachchan and another good AR Rahman score!
Quoted: A villager, Gurukant Desai, arrives in Bombay 1958, and rises from its streets to become the GURU, the biggest tycoon in Indian history.

Saw this tonight... I would definitely agree that Akshaye Khanna stole the show! The music was great, and all in all I enjoyed the movie. Still, it was way too long and the second half was basically an over the top version of Love Actually meets Bollywood.
Quoted: Overall, Akshaye Khanna tops the list when it comes to acting, while Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla are most dependable. I would blame Nikhil Advani for not utilizing the quality of the cast he had.
