    21 (2008 film) - Casting Controversy - Wikipedia

Scroll down to the section that's titled "Casting Controversy." This really pisses me off and should've gotten more media attention. I didn't realize that most of the blackjack team from MIT (represented in the movie '21') was actually composed of Asians, although that makes sense. It's not like there's a shortage of strong Asian actors out there right now who could've played the parts. What the hell?

Quoted: Though most of the actual blackjack team was composed of Asian males, a studio executive involved in the casting process said that most of the film’s actors would be white, with perhaps an Asian female.

Anti-abortion activists hijack 'Horton Hears a Who!' - Slate Magazine

It would be funny if it weren't so absurdly stupid (and alarming).

Quoted: It's Fun To Have Fun: Your Hollywoodland correspondent attended the glamorous premiere of Horton Hears a Who! last Saturday and was present when protesters started yelling shortly after Horton uttered his famous motto: "A person's a person, no matter how small."

Marjane Satrapi's brilliant Persepolis. - Slate Magazine

I seriously cannot wait to see this movie - the books are probably my favorite works of fiction. I'm so happy to see that it's getting great reviews. I really think her work could completely change the way we envision the Middle East.

Quoted: Directed by the comic-book artists Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud from a four-book series of autobiographical novels by Satrapi, the movie has a signature look. Except for a framing story in color, all the images are in black, white, and countless shades of gray.

Yay, the movie version of Persepolis comes out on Christmas! I'm sure it's going to be good since Marjane Satrapi was so involved in the writing and direction...

The Golden Compass (2007) - MSN Movies

I'll have to read the trilogy before the movie comes out!

Quoted: A young girl ventures into a perilous parallel universe to rescue her best friend and fight the forces of darkness in director Chris Weitz's adaptation of the first installment of author Philip Pullman's best-selling fantasy trilogy.

Love in the Time of Cholera (2007) - MSN Movies

I didn't know Love in the Time of Cholera is coming out as a movie, yay! Javier Bardem is amazing. I wonder if this influenced Oprah's choice to use this title for her book club. I did some digging: New Line, who's producing the movie, is a division of AOL Time Warner, which is partnered with Disney - ABC's parent company (Oprah's network). Interesting.

Quoted: Based on Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel García Márquez's novel of the same name, director Mike Newell's Love in the Time of Cholera details a passionate love triangle that unfolds in turn-of-the-century South America.

The book Feast of Love by Charles Baxter is one of my favorites of all time. I had no idea it was being released as a movie so soon! I can't wait to see it - the cast looks amazing. Just hope it lives up to the brilliance of the book!

Quoted: Feast of Love: A meditation on love and its various incarnations, set within a community of friends in Oregon. and is described as an exploration of the magical, mysterious and sometimes painful incarnations of love.

The Nanny Diaries reviewed. - Slate Magazine

Bummer - Nanny Diaries is getting crappy reviews.

Quoted: It's hard to account for the curious emptiness of The Nanny Diaries . It's written and directed by the husband-and-wife team of Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman, who made the lively underground-comic romance American Splendor.

What's with turning non-fiction, non-linear books into story-driven movies (i.e. Fast Food Nation)? It'll be interesting to see how this turns out...

    Stardust - Rotten Tomatoes

I find this movie oddly intriguing, but I guess that pretty much sums up Neil Gaiman's work in general!

Quoted: From the imaginations of best-selling author Neil Gaiman and director Matthew Vaughn comes "Stardust," this summer's one totally original fantasy epic that is destined to enchant and excite audiences of all ages.
