Meryl Streep is Julia Child — First Picture!

Holy crap, Meryl Streep makes an amazing Julia Child! I can't wait to see this movie... I loved Julia Child's memoir - so inspirational. She didn't even start cooking seriously until her late 30s and she failed plenty of times. Fabulous life.

Quoted: The film also covers the years Julia Child and her husband Paul (Stanley Tucci) spent in Paris during the 1940s and ’50s, when Paul was a foreign diplomat who was eventually investigated by Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

International Examiner - The Politics of Food - Shiwani Srivastava

My International Examiner review of Raj Patel's book about the global food crisis!

Quoted: The global food crisis certainly isn’t starved for media attention. Turn to any news organization and rising food prices are making headlines alongside the rising cost of gas. With all the recent coverage, it seems like a problem that came out of left field.

Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food. - Slate Magazine

A review of Michael Pollan's latest book, "In Defense of Food."

Quoted: Buy a hog? An entire hog? Cut it up and put the pieces in a freezer? I'm a fan of Michael Pollan's work, but he does have a tendency to hurtle himself into the stratosphere like an errant missile, then plummet back to earth and casually pick up where he left off.

Gift ideas for the foodie on your list, from notable chefs, food writers, and more. - Slate Magazine

    Great gift ideas for food-lovers!

Quoted: Everyone knows that classic cookbooks like 'The Joy of Cooking' and 'How To Cook Everything' make great gifts for aspiring chefs. But what if you want to give a cookbook to an adventurous baker with a passion for popovers?

    Barnes & Noble.com - Books: The Omnivore's Dilemma

Adding this to my list of must-read books!

Quoted: A New York Times bestseller that has changed the way readers view the ecology of eating, this revolutionary book by award winner Michael Pollan asks the seemingly simple question: What should we have for dinner?

From The Food Snob's Dictionary to On Food and Cooking - Slate Magazine

Slate's review of "The Food Snob's Dictionary." Great idea for a book.

Quoted: It gets ever harder to be a snob these days. Take food: It used to be a simple familiarity with Valrhona chocolate or a decent recipe for pad Thai could convince companions that you were an alpha in the food realm.

MSN City Guides - A Sweet Little Road Trip - Candyfreak

MSN City Guides article written by Steve Almond, the hilarious author of Candyfreak. I don't think I've ever interacted with anyone more obsessed with candy (and I REALLY like candy)! It's live on MSN right now - hope it does well!

Quoted: The author of "Candyfreak" leads a tour in search of the strangest bars you’ve never heard of from regional, old-fashioned candy makers.

Home Cooking for Pets Is Suddenly Not So Odd - New York Times

Fascinating trend, although in India, people just feed their dogs table scraps and they seem perfectly happy (which they should be, considering they eat better than I do).

Quoted: The numbers are small, but pet food cookbooks have seen a sales jump in the wake of commercial pet food recalls.

Random House | Books | Climbing the Mango Trees by Madhur Jaffrey

I interviewed Madhur Jaffrey today at the UW bookstore about her new book... Not only was she extremely nice, but she was very smart, an engaging speaker, and a very talented writer! Based on what I've read of the book so far, it's looking like I'm going to write a positive review...

Thanks for your help setting up the interview Sumit :)

Quoted: Today’s most highly regarded writer on Indian food gives us an enchanting memoir of her childhood in Delhi in an age and a society that has since disappeared.
