Really interesting Green Lantern. It seems obvious, but I never realized how processed soy milk is. Still, it has a slight environmental edge over cow's milk.
Quoted: You've already weighed in on the question of whether veganism or vegetarianism is better for the environment. But I want more specifics: Which is better for the environment, soy milk or cow's milk?

So sad... I had no idea! Apparently it's the worst year on record for something like this, and factors include over-fishing (forcing penguins to swim out farther), pollution (making the penguins weaker and more susceptible to illness) and global warming (stronger currents & more storms).
Quoted: Hundreds of baby penguins swept from the icy shores of Antarctica and Patagonia are washing up dead on Rio de Janeiro's tropical beaches, rescuers and penguin experts said.

Love this column from Slate. It's settled - a hybrid is still more energy efficient!
Quoted: I'm shopping for a car, and my tree-hugging pals are pushing me to get a Prius. But it seems wasteful to buy a brand-new car, given all the energy that goes into the production process. Wouldn't it be greener to get a certified, pre-owned vehicle with decent gas mileage?

This is a great slide show from Slate illustrating global environmental concerns, as well as solutions from around the world. Makes you realize the U.S. really needs to do its share...
Quoted: In honor of Earth Day, Magnum presents images illustrating the serious issues concerning how we treat the planet—and some creative solutions.

Interesting MSN City Guides article about a growing trend in restaurants using all parts of animals in preparing their menus. It's not only healthy, but environmentally friendly too! Also, that's a mighty fine headline if I may say so :)
Quoted: Some high-end eateries are going whole hog (cow, lamb, chicken—you name it) by using every part of an animal.

I heard about this on 60 Minutes. Gore gave a great interview - he seems really excited and at peace with his life trajectory. And why shouldn't he be?
Quoted: Nobel prize winner and former Vice President Al Gore plans to launch a three-year advocacy campaign calling for the United States to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

Slate column detailing the pros & cons of cloth vs. disposable diapers. Cloth wins out, but it's not as clear-cut a victory as you might think. The author also raises interesting points about the general wastefulness of baby care products.
Quoted: I'm about to have my first child, and my husband and I are vigorously debating our diaper options. Old-fashioned cloth nappies seem like a greener choice than plasticky disposables, but I've heard this isn't necessarily the case—washing machines don't run on pixie dust, after all.

If the Jetta gets the same gas mileage as the Prius but takes diesel (which is the most expensive fuel right now), how can Auburn Volkswagen argue that the TDI is the preferrable option?
1 FaverViewed: 6 TimesQuoted: One Auburn car dealer says he has a way to save on gas money, but the gas-saving car he's promoting isn't what you might think. He says his car can beat the nation's top selling hybrid, the Toyota Prius.

Volkswagon's new Jetta Turbo Diesel hasn't even hit the Seattle area market, but one Auburn Volkswagon dealer is throwing down the gauntlet to the king of hybrid sales. The Prius touts 47 miles per gallon, while the new Jetta TDI turbo diesel touts 47. The challenge: A road trip from Auburn, Wash., to San Francisco on one tank of gas. - vanessafox - 23 days ago1 FaverViewed: 3 Times

A public experiment that was better in theory than in practice: "In the end, the restrooms, installed in early 2004, had become so filthy, so overrun with drug abusers and prostitutes, that although use was free of charge, even some of the city’s most destitute people refused to step inside them."
0 FaversViewed: 3 TimesQuoted: After spending $5 million, Seattle officials decided to close the city’s five automated public toilets, which had become filthy and costly.
