Brick Lane | 2008 Seattle International Film Festival |

I didn't realize Monica Ali's "Brick Lane" was being adapted for film! Definitely hope to catch this one at SIFF - the actress will be at the June 5th screening.

Quoted: From Monica Ali’s award-winning, controversial novel, this startling film transforms the text into rich, seductive images layered onto a refreshingly accessible plot. Nazneen is a Bangladeshi woman living in 2001 London. Estranged from her teenage daughter and pseudo-intellectual husband, she falls into an affair with a young, charismatic Muslim activist.

Oliver Stone Votes for 'Bush' Project - MSN Movies News

Let the jokes begin. They should title this "The Comedy of Errors." Apparently the film is setting out to answer this question (which is also my favorite quote): "How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world?"

Quoted: Oliver Stone has set his sights on his next directing project, "Bush," a film focusing on the life and presidency of George W. Bush, and attached Josh Brolin to play the title role.

Michelangelo Antonioni, 94, Italian Director, Dies - New York Times

Weird, Antonioni and Ingmar Bergman died on the same day.

Quoted: The director’s chilly canticles of alienation were cornerstones of international filmmaking in the 1960s.

Freedom Writers - Hilary Swank - Movie - Review - New York Times

I feel like this movie was already made several times in the '80s...

Quoted: In “Freedom Writers” Hilary Swank uses neediness to fine effect in a film with a strong emotional tug and smartly laid foundation.

Pan’s Labyrinth - Movies - Review - New York Times

    This movie looks visually stunning...

Quoted: "Pan's Labyrinth" is a political fable in the guise of a fairy tale. Or maybe it's the other way around.

Apocalypto - Praise for Gibson Film, Quandary for Oscar Voters

Yeah, I found myself in a bit of a quandary too - I wanted to kinda hate Mel Gibson, but this movie looks pretty damn cool. Guess the two don't have to go hand in hand...

Quoted: Hollywood’s tight-knit community of Oscar voters may find itself facing a difficult dilemma in the coming weeks: Will they consider Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto” for an Academy Award?

Eddie Murphy - Dreamgirls - Academy Awards - Movies - New York Times

Good for Eddie Murphy, always thought he was super talented.

Quoted: There is talk of honors for a dramatic turn in "Dreamgirls," but will bad blood with directors spoil Eddie Murphy's chances?

Fast Food Nation - Richard Linklater - Eric Schlosser - Review - Movies - New York Times

Kind of want to see Fast Food Nation, but I'm ashamed to admit I've never read the book...

Quoted: The film adaptation of Eric Schlosser’s best-selling book is far too rich and complicated to be understood as a simple, high-minded polemic.

Borat - Sacha Baron Cohen - Movies - Review - New York Times

Woo! Can't wait for the Borat movie...

Quoted: The brilliance of “Borat” is that its comedy is as pitiless as its social satire, and as brainy.
