Seattle Newcomer Examiner - A Rude Awakening From Polite Seattleites - Examiner.com

    My latest blog post...

Quoted: Seattle Newcomer Examiner - I'm feeling a little homesick. No one's flipped me the bird, tried to run me over, or openly rolled their eyes at me in a while. It's not that New Yorkers are rude - they're just more familiar (you know, total strangers sharing their medical histories and major failures).

Will cockroaches really be the last survivors on Earth? - Slate Magazine

Even though cockroaches can withstand 10 times more radiation than humans, they're still not the most resilient organisms (or even insects, for that matter). Mythbusters proved that the flour beetle is more likely to survive atomic war!

Quoted: Pixar's Wall-E depicts a future Earth abandoned by humans, blanketed in garbage, and nearly devoid of life. At the outset, Wall-E, a robot, has but one companion: a friendly cockroach.

Al Franken's campaign quandary: how to explain away his bad jokes. - Slate Magazine

It will be interesting to see if Franken is able to overcome some of the hesitations voters might have about his comedian past.

Quoted: Americans say they want to be represented by "real people" and not by "professional politicians." This year a professional jokester, Al Franken (a Democrat), is challenging a professional politician, incumbent Norm Coleman (a Republican), for a Senate seat from Minnesota.

FOX Sports on MSN - TENNIS - Federer-Nadal classic draws best rating in 8 years

I'm not surprised it drew in so many viewers - with all the rain delays, it was easy for people to tune in as word of mouth got around about the match...

Quoted: Federer-Nadal classic draws best rating in 8 years.

Nadal and Federer Renew Their Friendly Rivalry - NYTimes.com

I love them both, it's too hard to choose!

Quoted: Once again, it will be Roger Federer against Rafael Nadal for the Wimbledon title. It will be left-hander against right-hander; finesse against force; cardigan against clam diggers. Federer versus Nadal is the sports rivalry of the moment.

The past and future of competitive eating injuries. - Slate Magazine

I will never understand competitive eating, but I continue to be fascinated (and slightly grossed out) by it...

Quoted: On July 4, six-time Nathan's-hot-dog-eating champ Takeru Kobayashi will try to reclaim his title from Joey Chestnut. Last year, Chestnut set a world record at the Coney Island contest by downing 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes.

Starbucks to close 600 stores in the U.S. - msnbc.com

Big news from Starbucks. It seems like franchising too rapidly has been a pitfall for lots of major chains (i.e. Cold Stone & Boston Market).

Quoted: Starbucks Corp. said Tuesday that it had drastically increased the number of stores it plans to close and could eliminate as many as 12,000 full- and part-time positions as a result.

FOX Sports on MSN - TENNIS - More Wimbledon upsets

I'm sad that James Blake is out - I'd love to see him win a major tournament. Looks like Venus is in it to win it!

Quoted: Sharapova sent packing and an error-prone Venus wins; James Blake is out as well.

The Race Police Need to Lay Off Imus | Views | TheRoot.com

Interesting story from The Root, considering this is a publication that covers race pretty extensively. It generated a lot of discussion on MSN yesterday. Raises some good points.

Quoted: Some of us are too pre-occupied with taking offense. We should be careful about limiting free speech, since we may be the next victims.

Astronomers on verge of finding Earth's twin - msnbc.com

    Wow, so cool!

Quoted: Planet hunters say it's just a matter of time before they lasso Earth's twin, which almost surely is hiding somewhere in our star-studded galaxy.
