The Annotated Geoffrey Raymond | The New York Observer

Just saw a news story about this - the artist paints a portrait of someone involved in the current economic crisis (like the former AIG chairman), puts it out on the sidewalk in Wall Street, and has passersby write whatever they want to around the face...

Quoted: Artist Geoffrey Raymond did not have much luck soliciting signatures on his portrait of ousted AIG Chairman Hank Greenberg when he displayed it outside the firm's Wall Street headquarters.

    Sean Qualls - Freelance Illustrator

Sean was in my children's book class at the School of Visual Arts in NY - I seriously can't get over how beautiful his art is. I'm happy to see he's making it in the children's book world!

Quoted: This image is of Lauryn Hill. It also got me the contract to illustrate Powerful Words. At the time I used mostly gouache and tempera.

Intruders at Paris' Orsay Damage a Monet - MSN News

Apparently a bunch of drunk people punched a hole in a Monet at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. What the hell is wrong with people?

Quoted: Intruders Seriously Damage a Renowned Work by Monet at Paris' Orsay Museum.

What a cool idea, this sounds so beautiful. I'd love to see it in person - yet another reason to visit Iceland!

Quoted: Yoko Ono to unveil Imagine Peace Tower, built in memory of John Lennon, in Iceland. The Imagine Peace Tower is a stories-tall beam of light that will emanate from a wishing well bearing the words "imagine peace" in 24 languages.

    No-regrets tattooing on the way - CNN.com

Cool! Although, I guess people will be less hesitant about getting stupid things etched onto their bodies...

Quoted: A new dye due to hit tattoo parlors this fall will provide an exit strategy of sorts for people who have thought about getting a tattoo, then wondered if they might someday have regrets.

Man builds a living out of LEGO - CNN.com

I love LEGOs! Turns out this guy left his career as a lawyer to become a LEGO artist. That's a picture of him enjoying a nice LEGO bath. Ha.

Quoted: Nathan Sawaya's workspace is an explosion of color. Sawaya, a LEGO artist, has built a functioning air conditioner out of the beloved kid's toy. Now Sawaya's national touring exhibit, "The Art of the Brick," is making the rounds.

Her Table Is Ready - washingtonpost.com

I'd love to see this in person.

Rache, let's go in June if I'm in NY for a bit!

Quoted: You'd think the shock would have worn off by now. Judy Chicago's iconic feminist art installation "The Dinner Party" made a lot of people squirm back in 1979, with its vulva-motif plates. Surely a progressive young feminist like myself would be able to handle it with some modicum of maturity.
