I had looked at a lot of Madhu Kishwar's work in grad school. She really is a pioneer in this field. I recommend checking out one of her talks if you have a chance!
Quoted: As India hurtles towards unparalleled economic growth and projects itself as the shining example of modernity and tradition, the ugly face of domestic violence and dowry-related suicides continues to haunt the country's conscience. You are invited to a presentation on these issues by India's leading activist, writer and publisher, Madhu Kishwar.

I REALLY wish I was still in school right now so I could see Muhammad Yunus speak today. I'd be curious to hear his take on this year's Nobel Peace Prize. If any of you are attending, get there early! It's not a huge room so I'm sure it'll fill up quickly.
Quoted: Please join us for a lecture followed by a Q&A with the “Banker to the Poor” and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunus (130 Kane Hall, University of Washington, October 16 at 11:30 am)

It's pumpkin beer time! I don't think I need to explain how I feel about pumpkin-flavored things.

This is a book I've been meaning to read - had no idea the Seattle Public Library was doing a project with the author. I won't have time to read the book before the events, but I'd definitely like to see him speak.
Quoted: The Seattle Public Library's 2007 September Project will feature mountain climber turned humanitarian, Greg Mortenson, author of "Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace ... One School at a Time."

Woohoo, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are playing Neumos in December! Anyone want to come? This is a show that won't disappoint. She's got soul like James Brown or Big Mama Thornton and her back-up band plays with Amy Winehouse. She's got so much energy - saw her at an outdoor show in NY when it was 100 degrees and she was still amazing.
Quoted: Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at Neumos on December 8, 2007.
