I'm only on page three so far of this article about the Obama's marriage. I thought it would be gossipy but so far, it's fascinating. I really admire Michelle Obama (yes, yes, I admire Pres. Obama too) and their candid answers really are illuminating. Anyway, would love to hear others' thoughts on the piece.

uhmmmm WHOA. unbelievable. there are so many ridiculous things this guy says that I don't even know where to start.
Quoted: A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.
""I'm not a racist...I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."
Um, sorry dude but anyone who describes himself as having "piles and piles" of black friends is racist. I am pretty sure the phrase "piles and piles" refers to things that are inanimate objects - like paper. not people. so many things wrong here.

Nice coverage of OneAmerica's candidate forum yesterday.
Quoted: 23,000 new voters: That's how many immigrants one group (OneAmerica!!) registered - before last year's election. They are becoming a unexpected force in politics as muslims and immigrants have now caught the attention of local candidates.

sudha | Shared With: Everyone - Sep 09 2009 | obama, van jones, bushYes - well said! The EJ movement lost in a big way w/ Jone's resignation.
Quoted: Politics aside, the resignation of Van Jones is a setback for the environmental justice movement. Activism, community organizing, expression of local interests, and development of indigenous leadership has always been where EJ is at its best. In fact, Jones is a latecomer to that activism, not the leader of it. The limitation of the environmental justice movement has been its decentralization, limited policy agenda, and lack of access of government power.
