sumit | Shared With: Everyone - Feb 08 2007 | blogs, moviesQuoted: Geeks and movies go together quite nicely. I've been thinking about films that reflect tech and geek culture, and have pulled together a list of 15 movies that should probably be on any geek's must-see list.
These are in no particular order, except that the first one is my No. 1 Must-Watch-for-Geek-Cred film.

I have yet to see this film, but I've seen a few clips here and there and it looks amazing. It isn't like your standard film, more of taking the most beautiful scenes imaginable on earth and putting them to music.
Quoted: I firmly believe ALL PEOPLE should view this film at least once in their lifetime--free from all external encumbrances--this film requires your undivided attention.

Quoted: During World War II, ten-year-old Eero is sent by his mother to Sweden for his protection (recalling the 80,000 children sent out of the country during the war). MOTHER OF MINE depicts the emotional confusion of childhood and the difficult choices of women who try to do what is best.

Movies to see.
Quoted: In this hilarious (especially when hitting uncomfortably close to home) new film, director Nicole Holofcener (Lovely and Amazing), keenly examines the challenges in friendships between “haves” and “have-nots” reaching midlife. Her wry script explores the precariousness of the impulse to compare status and accomplishments, and how this allows us to project our insecurities onto others.

Quoted: Elsa lives alone in a Madrid high-rise: she's tart, acerbic and has turned exaggeration into an art form. Fred, a recent widower, has just moved down the hall from Elsa: he's meticulous, reserved and not even remotely the kind of man one would expect to create sparks with Elsa. But sparks they indeed do create, and their affair comes to life in a fresh, humorous fashion as it peels away the layers of expectations.

Checking this documentary out at SIFF tomorrow. I hear it's one of India's stronger entries, curious to see it...
1 FaverViewed: 8 TimesQuoted: “What sin did I commit to be born a woman?” These chilling words of 21-year-old housemaid Lakshmi reverberate throughout Mumbai-based filmmaker Nishtha Jain’s extraordinary documentary. Jain turns the camera on her part-time maid, and in the process illuminates the complex relationship between employer and servant, filmmaker, and subject.
