a live performance by Klaus Nomi - The Cold Song

just finished watching the documentary "The Nomi Song" and unlike most of my reviews which i dot the movie itself i decided to dot a performance by Klaus Nomi.

his voice is just simply amazing. the movie is about the short life of Klaus Nomi - a german born singer who fell in movie with opera - he moves to NYC and became part of an underground scene in the 70's.

it talks about how he started in a vaudeville like show, but then taking over to become the show. it talks about how it was a collaboration between artistic types. where they had a guy who loved doing the visuals another who wrote songs, etc... and he was just the talent who lived and gave life to all these visions. they had some footage of their earlier shows where it's more of a performance art then a concert. i would love to see a full performance, it's visually great.

it talks about how these shows became like an avant grade opera - and make shows how his live was like a opera as well. i won't go into too much detail but i thought it was very interesting.

two things that i thought was great about Klaus Nomi.
1. his earlier performance art looks amazing combining songs and performance to create an opera.
2. his bloodie voice when he sings operatic songs.

after hearing his voice i think i need to look into some opera.

addition to my previous movie review of 'el bora.'

on the dvd extras section there was a short animated movie. you can watch it here on this website - fyi, it's in quicktime for all those that hate quicktime, but do watch it. i think it's a really great short.

note : Mark Osborne's "More" was nominated for the Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Short Subject.
