WKYC.com | Cleveland, OH | Brunswick Hills: Chief leaves peacefully from his home

    wtf...

Quoted: BRUNSWICK HILLS -- The Chief of Brunswick Hills Police left his house peacefully Thursday evening several hours after Medina County Sheriff's Deputies and area police officers were called to the home.
    ...
The chief, Robert Osiecki, has been taken to an area hospital.
    ...
A sheriff's office spokesperson tells Channel 3 News that Osiecki, 51, was due in court this week to face a domestic violence charge.
    ...
Osiecki reportedly called his own police department Thursday morning and threatened to hurt himself.
    ...
The domestic violence charge stems from an incident in October where Osiecki is accused of reportedly pulling a gun on a family member.
    ...
Wadsworth Municipal Court records show that Osiecki was found guilty in 2003 of driving under the influence of alcohol. He had been arrested by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on Feb. 23, 2003.
    ...
On July 18, 2003, Osiecki had his drivers license suspended for 180 days; was senteneced to 30 days in jail and had 27 days suspended; was placed on a year's probation; and paid fines and other costs totalling $1,661.
    ...
The ordeal impacted some students. Authorities had asked administrators to keep buses from the Autumnwood subdivision until the situation with the chief ended. As a result students who lived in the subdivision or in areas accessible only by streets running through the subdivision were kept at their schools until parents picked them up.

MyFox Cleveland | Man Pulled From Downtown Building Fire

UPDATE : spoke with the management company just now about ending our lease. they basically stated that in order for us to break our lease we would pay $150 + any month they can't find a new renter for the unit. BUT the would rent out all the other units (the ones whose leases end) first and then ours... so basically when we move and they can't find a new renter for the apartment we would still have to pay $1600 + per month until they find a replacement renter.

i told them considering the circumstances i didn't think that was right. they tried to explain that :
    A. our fire alarm on the 22nd floor didn't go off because the fire alarms are localized to the floors... since the fire was on the 13th floor only the 12th, 13th and 14th floor fire alarm went off.

    B. the fire department were the ones who came assessed the situation and turned off the fire alarm.

    my response :
    A. we have a friend who lives on the 12th floor. she was up having breakfast getting ready to go to work and she heard the fire alarm for all of 5 - 10 seconds (same as us) and presumed that the fire alarm was faulty. i asked the management people. are you trying to tell me that the time for the fire alarm to alert the fire department. for the fire department to come to the apartment, assess the situation and manually turned the fire alarm off took all of 10 seconds?

    B. if it's the alarm system to only set off localized fire alarms based upon floors and if the fire department isn't going to evacuate the whole building and i can't change either of these things then the only thing i can change is my place of residence.

i asked the management person. IF the fire had spread and finally my 22nd floor fire alarm went off (the 21st floor would have to be on fire/have smoke in order to set off my floors fire alarm) then i would have to take the stair well down 22 flights?! while fighting all the other people who are also trying to escape? i told them i would rather be informed (regardless of how 'contained') immediately about a fire so i can get my ass out of there. if they control it - great, no big deal - better safe then sorry. if it spreads - great, i had more time to get the fuck out of there.

they stated they can not do anything and i have to talk to the manager... who of course is on vacation and won't be back til Thursday. i couldn't even make an appointment with her and have to call her on Thursday morning in order to schedule a meeting to discuss getting out of the lease.
