After his cousin Akhil Kumar reached the quarterfinals by beating the World Champion, Jitender emulated his feat by beating Uzbek boxer Tulashboy Doniyorov 13-6 in an ill-tempered bout. "I dedicate this win to Akhil. He has been everything for me and I want to win a medal for him", said Jitender after winning the bout.
