just finished watching man bites dog. i've heard about it for some time now but kinda put it off cause i'm not a big fan of uber realistic violence. with that stated the movie came up on my netflix queue and it came... so i watched... and i gotta say, it blew me away.
it's very disturbing - the premise of the movie is simple. it's about a mock-documentary where the producer is also the main star whose also a serial killer who kills for profit. the film crew follows him as he shows how to kill, how to dispose, how to find victims with money. the film crew starts out being just a fly on the wall but slowly becomes part of the film.
the movie is very interesting, it's well done, it's very disturbing but i gotta say it's pretty darn good. note : it's got a shit ton of violence so if you're squeamish avoid this movie, but if you're okay knowing that it's all fake then do check this movie out.
also note - the guys who made this film were all film students who decided to make this movie on the cheap. it's also a great example of how ingenuity can allow you to make something great on a budget.

wasn't aware the co-producers, screen writers and leading actresses also wrote the off-broadway play which the movie is based off of.
Quoted : Kissing Jessica Stein (2001) is a U.S. independent romantic comedy film, written and co-produced by the film's stars, Jennifer Westfeldt and Heather Juergensen. The film also stars Tovah Feldshuh and is directed by Charles Herman-Wurmfeld. The movie is based on a 1997 off-Broadway play by Westfeldt and Juergensen called Lipschtick.

just finished watching this great movie. had heard bout it but for whatever reason didn't get around to watching it. then saw a trailer for it in another movie and decided to add it to my netflix que and glad that i did.
it's a lovely story - which apparently started out as a play - then was converted into a screen play by Jennifer Weslfeldt and Heather Juergensen who played the two leading roles in the play - who also play the leading roles in the movie.
apparently it was produced by the two ladies as well. it's a great funny story about two women - one whose sexually adventurous who wants to 'experiement' and another whose just tired of meeting all the wrong men and want to shake things up.
especially enjoyed the fact that the movie tried to be honest bout relationships in general. what i mean by that is that they tackle various relationship issues - sex, homosexuality, communication, how it affects family and friends etc... it's a smart movie with funny moments.
overall, i liked the movie in that it's core (imho) is that you should be open to people - regardless, and that from it perhaps you'll grow as a person and be able to grow and become better. yes - cheesy i know, but that's what this movie is. it's a romatic comedy with brains and heart.

oddly entertaining.
so i watched 4 dvd's over the weekend - and sadly this was the best out of the lot - not because this movie was so bad, but rather the other three were so bloodie aweful.
so the benchwarmers kinda shocked me. i was expecting a very low brow crude humored movie, instead i find that this movie seems to be geared towards kids. yes you read correctly - kids. i say 'seems' because there are jokes which are more for adults (high school and up). but things like the 'titty twister' and dog poo and farting on someone's faces - hmmm.... yeah.
overall the movie had a likeable cast of characters (shockingly rob schneider doesn't pay an idiot in this movie), twists to the plot which wasn't expected and an overall feel good let's all hold hands and sing a song type ending - thus i say it seems to be geared towards kids.
looking for a comedy that you can watch with your kids (my guess is middle school and up) then this might be the flick for you.

just finished watching this - and i gotta say, it's bloodie good / goofie / funnie / out of control.
it's journey tale of two stoners in search of the perfect food - white castles. it makes me so wish there was a white castle in seatle - with that stated i'm going on a road trip to NY in septemeber and needless to say... we are so gonna stop for white castle!
here's what amazon had to say bout the movie :
Two twenty-something stoner roommates -- one a Korean American investment banker; the other an Indian American medical school candidate -- go through a life changing journey, as they spend a night roaming the state of New Jersey in search of White Castle hamburgers.Quoted: Amazon.com: Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (Unrated Extended Edition): DVD

saw this movie with my dad today - had pretty high hopes considering peeps on bluedot seemed to have enjoyed it + the overall rating on rottentomatoes.com was pretty good.
watched the movie and found it was.... eh. there were funny moments - but that's what it was, just funny moments with random stuff put in between. i'm getting to the point were i'm starting to believe that all of will ferrell's movies are movies of funny moments.
my personal recommendation would be if you're looking for some chuckles this is an option - but i'd say a rent option.

saw this yesterday as well - very interesting movie. it starts out like a horrible piece a poo movie - then quickly changes into a sharp comedy, then revenge then drama...
the first 3/4 of the movie is funny - very smart dialog.
FYI - do not watch this with your kids / parents. it'll make you uncomfortable.also - James Woods is bloodie fantastic in his small role as the girls father.
here is what amazon had to say about the plot :
Manipulative high school sophomore Kimberly Joyce leads her friends Brittany Wells and Randa Azzouni in bringing charges of sexual assault against Percy Anderson, their English and drama teacher at an exclusive private school in Beverly Hills. Meanwhile, local reporter Emily Klein, originally assigned to do an insignificant piece on the school, hopes that the scandal will launch her into celebrity in the television news business, while Kimberly's bigoted father, Hank, is concerned primarily with the effect that his daughter's accusations may have on his business.Quoted: Amazon.com: Pretty Persuasion: DVD

hmmm
also could be good, despite the incredible Oedipal overtones.
1 FaverViewed: 4 TimesQuoted: Son Hayes never speaks of the scars on his back. The shotgun pellets left under his skin make for a sporadic pattern of blue-black dots. The men he works with take bets on how he got them. His brothers, Boy and Kid Hayes, don’t discuss it. His past, just like these scars, is never far behind him. This stands true for the memory of his father, a man that never bothered to give his children proper names. He left the three brothers, Son (MICHAEL SHANNON), Boy (DOUGLAS LIGON) and Kid (BARLOW JACOBS), when they were young. Their last impressions were of a violent drunk who never hesitated to put his own needs ahead of his family. The brothers were left to be raised by their mother, a hateful woman, who to this day blames her children for the life she’s been left with and the man she could not keep. Their father, having left the memory of his children as completely as he left their home, managed to move on and put his life back together. He sobered up, became a devout Christian, married a wonderful woman, and fathered four new sons. All of who received proper names. His life became a model that most would aspire to, a man successful in business, community and family. His only true failing being the sons he turned his back on. At the beginning of the film, we find Son, Boy and Kid as grown men. The three brothers’ lives progress and their futures play out, but their past inevitably comes to claim them. Following a dispute at their father’s funeral, a feud begins to simmer between these sons and the new young men their father has raised. It is an anger that has always rested uncomfortably in the background of their lives. However now, it is a thing that will rise up to overtake them all. Set against the cotton fields and back roads of Southeast Arkansas, these brothers discover the lengths to which each will go to protect their family.
