more on Goya - this page has additional paintings by Goya. check out the change of his style. he was basically doing the typical 'court painter' type of stuff. portraits and such. they all look nice, nothing special really... then his paintings seems to take on life - anger, distress, etc...
his style and topic for his paintings changed during the french invasion and it shows in his work. i personally think it's powerful stuff. one of his more famous painting is 'The Shootings of May Third 1808.' you can read for yourself the life of Goya in this website

one of my favorite paintings. currently reading Mythology - Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes and it reminded me of this painting.
it's by the artist Francisco Goya, who is a spanish painter. he is best know for his work depicting the french invading spain in the 1800's.
the reason i love this painting is because it's so gruesome. it moves you - and for some odd reason the painting doesn't look quite right. if you look closely it's because of the disproportion of the body.
