Independent Lens . STORM OF EMOTIONS | PBS

just saw this independent documentary on PBS. it's pretty amazing and emotional to watch. what i was extremely impressed by was the police / soldiers who had to perform the evacuations.

    would highly recommend.

Quoted: STORM OF EMOTIONS chronicles the Israeli disengagement from the Gaza Strip and efforts to achieve democracy amidst great social and political turmoil.

Man Bites Dog (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

just finished watching man bites dog. i've heard about it for some time now but kinda put it off cause i'm not a big fan of uber realistic violence. with that stated the movie came up on my netflix queue and it came... so i watched... and i gotta say, it blew me away.

it's very disturbing - the premise of the movie is simple. it's about a mock-documentary where the producer is also the main star whose also a serial killer who kills for profit. the film crew follows him as he shows how to kill, how to dispose, how to find victims with money. the film crew starts out being just a fly on the wall but slowly becomes part of the film.

the movie is very interesting, it's well done, it's very disturbing but i gotta say it's pretty darn good. note : it's got a shit ton of violence so if you're squeamish avoid this movie, but if you're okay knowing that it's all fake then do check this movie out.

also note - the guys who made this film were all film students who decided to make this movie on the cheap. it's also a great example of how ingenuity can allow you to make something great on a budget.

The Legend of Suriyothai - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

just finished watching this 2 1/2 hr movie about the history of thailand - it's fantastic with some amazing fight sequences.

think LOTR type action except with real peeps and elephants! it's pretty bad ass. + the characters, plots, drama, etc... is also fantastic.

if you've got the time to kill - i would highly recommend this movie.

The Seattle Times: Restaurants: Oodles of yummy noodles for not a lot of dough

great place to replace pho with.

Quoted: In the cold winter months, noodle soups, which are served in a housemade broth, are the ultimate comfort food. The Cambodian Sate Beef Noodle soup (see bill portion below) is a standout with its intense, nutty flavor. Other choices include Fisherman's Bowl ($5.20), with prawns, calamari, fish cakes and fish balls, and Goo Nam Noodle ($5.20), with spiced beef stew and tendon.

today seemed like the day of bad movies - even though i had such high hopes for all of them. this movie was no exception. it has jodie foster and vincent d'onofrio - how bad could it be right?

well - it wasn't bad, but by no means was it good.

what's the movie about? some really really bored kids - who are just dumbasses. that's the whole movie.

okay - i had heard this movie was bad... but that didn't capture how utterly crappy this movie is. i actually feel asleep towards the end cause it was just so boring. there was nothing funny about this movie. any humorous bits you've already seen in the trailer... and even that wasn't that funny.

the premise. a monk wrestles to help feed the homeless kids.

do not - i repeat do not watch this movie - if you don't, i just saved you 92 minutes of your life.

    Amazon.com: Max: DVD

how very disappointing. it seemed like a promising / interesting movie but sadly it turned out to be crap....

the premise of the movie is simple. it's after WWI in germany and an art dealer (MAX) befriends a young artist - by the name of Hitler. yes - you read correctly. the movie explores / suggests that Hitler's artistic side with Max's influence + political propaganda from the army lead to Hitler's vision of the 'New Germany.'

sadly the movie doesn't explore deeper into this theme and just seems to graze it - and to my great disappointment john cusack seemed blah in this movie - he seemed to be just the same ol same ol.

    Amazon.com: Why We Fight: DVD

this movie will disgust you. it's a look into why we fight - more specifically looking at the iraq war. it's disgusting. i say this in the sense that it makes a connection between war in general and money - more specifically military spending / contracts.

it looks at this question from the stance of history, a solider, a father whose two sons died in 9/11, etc... it's very sad, very disturbing and it will enlighten you to things you may or may not have know.

i for one didn't know many things presented in this movie. such as :
    1. during the first 6 months of the iraq war 50 'smart' bombs was used - every one of them missed their target. these 'smart' bombs were touted as being 99% accurate.
    2. during the 50's iran was pissed off at the british for taking oil from iran and not giving iran it's share. the british spoke with the u.s. - u.s. went to war with iran and replaced the government - there was a revolt which put the Ayatollah in power. the u.s. government put sadam into power in iraq - iraq goes to war with iran... i won't go on but you get the idea.

there are many many many more things which i didn't know bout but i won't go into it here.

this movie is very eye opening and very disturbing. watch this with that thought in mind. if you every joined a rally against bush, the war, or any other policy you might want to watch this movie. if you're thinking of joining the army - you might want to watch this movie.

    additional note :
during the gulf war 7% of bombs used were 'precision bombs' - there was 3,700 civilian casualties.

during the iraq war 63% of bombs used were 'precision bombs' - there was 6,000 civilian casualties in the first month.
