Once they've provided a sector server of any sort (which a heirarchical file server is, albeit with arbitrary symbolic rather than linear numeric addressing), it shouldn't be too hard to create a transparent crypto "shim" on top of it.

Brad's comment about WoZ's pet tracker reminds me of the Digital Angel product (concept? not sure if it ever got past vapor) using an implantable GPS + Cell Phone transmitter to do the same thing.

The spooky thing about them was the subtle implication that pet tracking was a stepping stone on the way to child tracking (and, subsequently, citizen tracking?). *shudder*

Of course, the cool part about the Digital Angel concept was their patent on a method to power implantable electronic devices using the current generated from normal muscle movement. Again, I don't know how vaporous this was. I suppose I'll have to go hunt it down now.
