Women Are Never Front-Runners - New York Times

AGREED (w/article, not title) and my $0.02:

    1) why do women always seem to be more critical of each other? we want change (equal pay, equal opportunities, equal this & that), yet on the verge of it, we're are afraid to support and embrace the one that can truly change this country,

    2) Alexis de Tocqueville wrote in 1830s that American Democracy owes its supremacy to its women b/c they are the mores of the nation; women are the ones who bring about change, hope, and healthy mores b/c they instill it in the youth - the future. Quoted: So why is the sex barrier not taken as seriously as the racial one? The reasons are as pervasive as the air we breathe: because ...

    A Gift for India's Inter-caste couples

i appreciate the attempt to socially dissolve this system, but is literally throwing money at the problem ethical or effective? how is this different from getting a dowry from the girl's parents? now you're getting it from the gov't (man or woman).

Quoted: BAIRAGHAR, India- Plenty of women may feel they deserve an award for marrying their husbands, but Madhavi Arwar is actually getting one -- from the Indian government, no less.

wow, this is such bs. if the Supreme Court ends up upholding the 92-yr-old law, it will be a shameful day in India. How do other cities with high crime rates handle this problem? What about Bombay, New York, LA, etc.

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Gender equality dogs India's army

Quoted: Women are assigned to departments like artillery, signals, engineering and intelligence but they are not allowed in close combat duties. And once retired, they are not entitled to a pension.

Outrageous...this is such bs! You can fight for your country, give your life, and just b/c you're a woman, the country doesn't give you anything back. I can't believe Indian armyMEN still believe that women shouldn't be part of the army...how ludicrous. I wonder if US army women have such problems. This is the first time I've read an article about women officers in the Indian Army.
