i've always shyed away from those beer clubs. i don't know why. but my mouth watered when you said "Black Butte Porter"....
      mmmmmmm

    • zerohour - May 24 2008

i'm pretty sure it's not a club. all i know that it'd be pretty frickin' sweet to have a fridge full of black butte and arrogant bastard--maybe a few full sail seasonals to round it out...

also, weren't there other over-seas online cigarette stores? i remember their information not being nearly as hilarious, but have you checked that out?

    • shadowpuppetmaster - May 24 2008

it's what are generally called "beer of the month clubs". there's lots of these, they've been doing this for a while. each month, they send you either a random assortment of beers, or ones you choose.
that said, i'm very much in support of this fridge-full-of-west-coast idea you're suggesting. yes. but i didn't look...how are the prices? is it insane?
also, do you think our neighbors can be trusted with a bunch of beer sitting in the foyer of our building?

    • zerohour - May 24 2008

their prices are pretty much on par, although that doesn't include shipping. i haven't registered to order online, so i don't know what their prices are. i figured we'd have it shipped to the department, since there is always someone there over 21 and we could ask marry to keep it in her office if we weren't available.

what i meant to say was: i don't think you need to be a part of the beer club to order their beers online...

      gotcha.

but then we have to haul beer on our backs from DePaul to our house? sounds a bit irritating. maybe i'd do this once and a while for really good stuff, but can't we just go to the Liquor Warehouse on sheffield street for this stuff anyway?
not to bash the idea, i'm just trying to figure out if it really makes sense.
i guess it does only if we can't find the same beer locally. otherwise, not really.

    • zerohour - May 24 2008

if they have deschutes, full sail, and arrogant bastard, then hey, nuff said. i remember lot's of rogue at the warehouse, but no arrogant bastard, no full sail, and definitely no deschutes. i know there are a couple other huge warehouse-style liquor sellers in chicago, so maybe giving them a call would be in order to see if you can get this stuff locally. if not, obviously you wouldn't wanna live off of e-ordered beer, but i dotted it on the assumption that you can't, cuz it'd be nice to have the dank once a month. (also, now that i think about it, i was talking with that dude tony from the local op and i asked him about arrogant bastard and he said that they just don't distribute here).

    • shadowpuppetmaster - May 24 2008

yeah some deschutes would be great.
      should look into this.

      go here: http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/city/6

they have links to beer sellers and reviews. Armanetti Wine Shoppe and Beverage Mart seems to have gotten good reviews...

      hehe
      "beeradvocate"
as if any phenomena in the world received more global love and admiration than beer.
      okay, i'll check it out.

dude, i'll tell ya one thing: in france, the beer ain't gettin' enough love. gregoire wanted to impress me with some 'good' french beer. i took a swig and the word "Heinekin" came to mind. I nodded and politely described it as "malty" (which it was, sort of...in comparison with heinekin)....

    • shadowpuppetmaster - May 24 2008

too bad this company doesn't ship beers to france. or do they? somehow i assume not.

      hehe, "malty"....lolz.

    • zerohour - May 24 2008

nope, just to certain states in the u.s. clownfrown. however, online i tracked down a store here that sells trapist beers. should be good. thanx belgium!
