click to playThis is the newest music video from Björk, for the initial track off of Volta, called Earth Intruders. Not what I was expecting. I knw Björk has made boring music videos in the past, but I wasn't expecting her to make another for the album's first music vid. In any case, instead of orientalist motifs, as one might have expected for this video, instead we get a different unsavory treat: exoticization!!! The interview with her that I dotted a while back has a part where she talks about hanging out in south east asia--maybe this is a shout out to her homies.

Not actually the biggest fan of this one. Björk + Pompadour = nicht nicht.
still, the beginning reminds me of Ghost In The Shell 2. I'm pretty sure this was when Björk started using a different director for her music videos, who also happened to be from Japan.
P.S., yes, wiki confirms it: "The video was directed by Japanese artist Eiko Ishioka".

maybe not her best video. i was really hoping that she'd transform totally into a bear by the end of it and be scarfing down man-flesh. every time i see this video, it's been long enough for me to forget that that doesn't happen. so it goes.

click to playThis video was the first thing i ever saw or heard of Björk's and I pretty much fell in love with her work right there. The video is creepy--something about stuffed bears. And as Björk transforms from larva to moth, I recall being extra freaked out--and liking it. Oh and the triumph of the bear over human behavior is a nice touch too. I think I was 11, maybe twelve.
