I saw this guy read these poems and a few others from his collection titled "Hammer" at Tsunami Books in Eugene a few years back. I like his poems.

"He is the son of a Presbyterian minister. He received a Masters in Poetry from Boston University at age 47, otherwise, he has spent 25 years working construction and building houses. He lives and works in Berkeley, California."

hmm i thought the first one was a bit chauvinist (a 'she' is never working construction?). he reminds me of carl sandburg. maybe thats the style hes after? kinda humorless, though. too reminiscent of the character of 'barton' from the film 'barton fink', for me-- romanticizing the 'everyman'.
