Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 1, Episode 2: The Harvest

So, I'm well into season two now, but here is the second episode of the first season. Highly recommended. It's up there with Twin Peaks and Heroes.

SERIOUSLY! I am hooked. Go get the DVDs right now. Honestly, you can tell that in the first season they are still working out their mojo. But it's still good. The second season is where it really starts to shine, as the characters become more developed and the feminist positions on social life become more pronounced. I mean, what better way to convey how to deal with systematic oppression than to metaphorize it and then equip oneself with some garlic, a cross, and a stake? Buffy is like Xena with an analysis.

Also, if you have seen the movie, don't let that dissuade you. I wrote the show off, having seen the film, thinking that it was terrible. Joss Whedon, the creator of buffy, himself expressed disappointment in the movie, as he had lost creative control over the film's production. If you remember, the whole thing ends with Buffy hooking up with Luc Perry, the moral being that sometimes you just have to kick ass to get the guy you want. With Buffy in TV, things are far more complicated, both practically and analytically. The show also has a couple of spin-off projects--the 'Angel' tv series (which follows one of the main characters introduced in the first season) and the Buffy comic books. My friends who got me into this have told me that the latter is pretty damn good, even by comic-book-geek standards.

One of my other fav numbers from the musical episode.

Did I mention that the premise is that a demon has come to Sunnydale with the power to kill people by making them break into song to the point of spontaneous combustion? Oh, and I should probably mention that Anya has an inexplicable phobia of bunnies, which has been a part of her character development since season three.

Musicals - I ll never tell (Buffy the Vampire Slayer Musical)

From the Buffy musical episode. It's a teency weency spoiler if you haven't gotten to season six, but in my opinion, it isn't much of a biggie--but it IS such a great number...

I haven't even seen the Angel spin-off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but you know what? I'm already totally psyched that it's coming out on DVD. (And Angel is such a total hottie)...

I'm 2/3 of the way through the second season of BTVS. Holy, Holy Fucking Shit! OMFG! This show is so completely egoic: as it ties itself together so perfectly, it never fails to fray and come apart. The unbinding in this show is B.R.U.T.A.L. I plan on watching at least three more seasons before school starts.

YES! This is the goldmine: you can download the entirety of Buffy the Vampire Slayer here through rapidshare. It's not good for amassing a ton of episodes and then having a marathon (as is my preference), but this way I can watch at least one per night.
