Everyone on the 'net knows about Wikipedia--so many people know about it, in fact, that my college even bans students from using it as a source for research papers.
However, many (at least, in my corner of the world) do not know that wikipedia is merely one of more than 9 wiki projects run by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation.
Other projects include Wiktionary, Wikiquote, and wikibooks, to name a few.

A novel written entirely by millions of people who don't know each other, don't live near each other, and don't know the ending yet.
Quoted: A Million Penguins is a wikinovel experiment where anyone can write and anyone can edit a novel-in-progress.
There are actually (apparently) two novels at the moment, one a spin-off or a split-off from the first, and rumors of a third. I haven't read the story yet--not sure whether or not I want to read it until it's finished.
Interestingly, it is powered by the wiki platform designed by Wikimedia.
